Cysteine is one of the amino acids the body can make itself, and it is also found in protein-rich foods such as eggs, poultry, dairy and pulses. In BestNAC one capsule provides 450 mg of N-acetyl-L-cysteine, of which 334 mg is L-cysteine.
Glucoraphanin occurs naturally in cruciferous vegetables: broccoli, kale, Brussels sprouts, rocket and cabbage. Young broccoli sprouts contain considerably more of it than the mature vegetable, which is why the extract is made from sprouts rather than from florets. The extract in BestNAC is standardised to 1% glucoraphanin and 0.5% sulforaphane, so each capsule contains 1 mg of glucoraphanin and 0.5 mg of sulforaphane.
A plant extract without standardisation tells you the name of the plant but not how much of the active compound is inside. Standardisation means the amount is declared and repeatable from batch to batch. It is the difference between knowing what you are taking and guessing.

Unfortunately, the smell of the supplement is very unpleasant (some describe such a smell as 'chemical') and I only took two capsules. I have concerns about using it, probably unfounded, but I can't bring myself to. Which is a shame, because the ingredients are great for me. I just need information about where this smell comes from.
