We often assume that when stress subsides, the body automatically enters a period of intense regeneration. From a biological point of view, this mechanism is more complex. Prolonged overload of regulatory systems can change the way they function, meaning that the return to balance (homeostasis) is neither automatic nor quick. This is why we then feel constant mental and physical fatigue.
