These are natural stages of growing up, but they are also the moments when more and more parents start to pay attention to the microbiome and to their child's everyday diet. A balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle, including managing stress, rest and regular physical activity, are what keep the intestinal microbiota in balance. Probiotic supplementation can be an additional support.

Expert opinion

“In children up to three years of age the microbiota is not very diverse, and the vast majority of gut bacteria are Bifidobacteria, or at least they should be. If I had to point to one of the key elements shaping a child's development, it would be looking after the microbiome. It is the foundation of proper physical and mental functioning later in life. BestBiotic Junior was created with the youngest in mind.”

What sets BestBiotic Junior apart

In a probiotic for a child what matters is not only which strains are used, but whether they stand a chance of reaching the place where they are meant to act.

1. Microencapsulation, why all this technology?

Every strain in BestBiotic Junior is covered with a protective lipid coating. This shields the bacteria better from the acidic environment of the stomach, which increases the chance that more live cells reach the intestine. In a product for children this matters twice over, because what counts is not only the composition but also how predictable it is.

2. A 50% probiotic overage, why it matters

In probiotic products the cell count declared on the label is not decoration. It is a parameter with practical meaning. Probiotics are sensitive to temperature, humidity, time and transport. Using a 50% probiotic overage means the recipe was designed with a safety margin, so the real number of live bacteria in the declared serving stays high throughout storage.

3. A high cell count per serving

A daily serving of 15 drops contains:

  • 5 billion Bifidobacterium animalis lactis BS01 (LMG P-21384)
  • 3 billion Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG (ATCC 53103)
  • 3 billion Bifidobacterium breve BR03 (DSM 16604)
  • 3 billion Bifidobacterium longum BL03 (DSM 16603)

A high, readable daily serving, which tells you clearly what reaches your child and in what amount.

4. A liquid form that suits a child

A liquid form means easier dosing, more flexibility and less friction in the daily routine. That matters most when the child is very small, or already tired enough from an infection, teething or a change of rhythm.

5. A base of coconut MCT oil

Coconut MCT oil is stable, well tolerated and neutral in taste, which counts in daily use with the youngest. Unlike many classic carriers it needs no emulsifiers or unnecessary additives. Just as importantly, the MCT oil used has been tested for purity and for the presence of heavy metals, which is particularly important in products intended for children.

Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG (ATCC 53103):

Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG is one of the best understood and most frequently described probiotic strains in the scientific literature. It has appeared in research publications for over 40 years, and its broad documentation has made it one of the most recognisable strains used in modern probiotic work. In the context of the child microbiome, L. rhamnosus GG comes up especially often in analyses of how the body adapts to changing environmental conditions, of everyday digestive function and of overall microbiological balance. It is precisely this depth of scientific understanding that makes it such a valued component of probiotic formulas for children.

Bifidobacterium animalis lactis BS01:

Bifidobacterium animalis lactis BS01 belongs to the Bifidobacterium genus, a group of bacteria especially characteristic of the microbiota of the youngest children. In the scientific literature, strains from this group appear regularly in the context of building and maintaining a healthy intestinal environment in the early years of life. BS01 fits well into the concept of modern probiotic formulation for children, because it mirrors the natural dominance of bifidobacteria in the microbiome of infants and small children.

Bifidobacterium breve BR03:

Bifidobacterium breve BR03 is another strain from the Bifidobacterium genus, often analysed in publications concerning intestinal comfort, everyday digestive function and bowel rhythm. Strains of the Bifidobacterium breve species are typical representatives of the child microbiota and form a natural part of the intestinal environment of the youngest. The presence of BR03 in the BestBiotic Junior formula is no accident: it is a strain that fits the needs of a developing child microbiome.

Bifidobacterium longum BL03:

Bifidobacterium longum BL03 belongs to a group of bacteria considered particularly important for the child microbiota. Strains of the Bifidobacterium longum species are naturally associated with the early stage of microbiome development and appear regularly in literature devoted to the diversity of the intestinal environment in children. BL03 completes the profile of bacteria characteristic of the first years of life. In well designed probiotic formulas for the youngest, what matters is not only the presence of a single popular strain, but a well chosen company of bacteria that together form a more coherent whole.

An imbalance of the microbiota is considered one of the significant factors behind the development of lifestyle-related conditions. That is why it is worth looking after the microbiome from the earliest years, consciously, calmly and consistently.

Recommended intake: 15 drops daily during a meal or immediately after it. Take directly or dissolve in water or milk and drink. Use within 30 days of opening. Shake vigorously for about 10 seconds before use until the suspension is uniform. Separation of the solid and liquid phases is a natural feature of the product, not a defect.

Storage: after opening, the probiotic drops can be kept at room temperature, in a dry place, out of reach of small children. Protect from moisture, sunlight and artificial heat sources.

Precautions: do not exceed the recommended daily serving. A balanced diet and a proper lifestyle are important for the functioning of the human body. A food supplement must not be used as a substitute for a varied diet. Do not use in case of hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients. Pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers should consult a doctor before use. Sediment is a natural property of the product, shake well before use.

Where are BestLab dietary supplements manufactured?

BestLab supplements are manufactured in Poland, in modern plants that meet the highest quality standards. The production process uses advanced technologies that preserve the full nutritional value of the active ingredients. The raw materials come from various regions of the world, and we select only those that meet our strict requirements for purity, effectiveness and quality.

Have BestLab supplements been tested?

Yes. Every batch of BestLab supplements undergoes detailed testing at JS Hamilton, an independent and well established certification centre in Poland. The supplements are tested for purity, composition and active substance content. We use standardised raw materials only, which means each serving contains exactly the amount of active ingredients declared on the label. Our products are also free from artificial fillers, preservatives and colourings.

Does BestBiotic Junior contain gluten? Can it be used by people with coeliac disease?

Our supplements are completely free from gluten, which means they can be used safely by people with coeliac disease and by anyone avoiding gluten for other health reasons. Every batch is tested for the presence of gluten and lactose, so the product is safe even for the most sensitive digestive systems.

Does BestBiotic Junior need to be kept in the fridge?

No, provided it is not extremely hot and the product is not stored right next to a heat source such as a stove, oven or fireplace.

Are any tests needed before using BestBiotic Junior?

No. Probiotic preparations sit in the GRAS group, Generally Recognised As Safe, and no tests are needed before starting supplementation. The only limitation on using BestBiotic Junior may be conditions related to SIBO or IMO.

Can BestBiotic Junior be used during a course of antibiotics?

It can, although we more readily recommend using it in a three to six month cycle after the course of antibiotics has finished, in order to rebuild the microbiome.

How long should BestBiotic Junior be used after a course of antibiotics?

To rebuild the microbiome after a course of antibiotics we suggest using BestBiotic Junior in a cycle of three to six months.

What does pulsed use of probiotics mean?

It simply means that after finishing a six month cycle of BestBiotic Junior you can move to a pattern where you take the product for 10 days in a row and then take a 20 day break, repeating the cycle for as long as you wish.

If my child eats a lot of fermented foods, can they still take a probiotic?

Of course. Eating fermented foods and probiotic drinks is an excellent way to support gut health, but it is worth remembering that they are only the foundation. The content and diversity of probiotic strains in fermented foods can be limited and variable, depending on how they were prepared and on fermentation conditions. The properties of probiotics depend closely on the specific strains contained in the supplement.

What are the probiotic bacteria in BestBiotic Junior grown on?

The medium on which the probiotic bacteria are grown consists of plant peptones, from rice, pea or yeast, mineral salts and glucose. For each strain there are small differences in the composition of the medium.

Does BestBiotic Junior contain trace amounts of milk proteins?

No. All ingredients of BestBiotic Junior are plant based, food grade and free from allergens.

How long should BestBiotic Junior be used? Should breaks be taken?

BestBiotic Junior, like any probiotic preparation, should be used for at least a month, although the microbiology community recommends probiotic courses lasting three to five months. These can be repeated cycles supporting the body during the spring and autumn changes of season. Pulsed use is also possible: three months of continuous use, then a pattern of 10 days on and 20 days off.

From what age can BestBiotic Junior be given?

BestBiotic Junior contains probiotic strains that sit in the GRAS group, Generally Recognised As Safe, and their use is permitted from the second day of a child’s life. In practice this means a newborn can start taking BestBiotic Junior at a dose of 2 to 3 drops daily as soon as they come home from hospital.

Is the 15 drop serving the same for younger and older children?

We suggest 2 to 3 drops daily for newborns coming home from hospital. From 6 months of age a serving of 5 drops is suggested, above 2 years of age 10 drops, and for five year olds and older children the full serving of 15 drops.

Probiotic Drops for Children – BestBiotic Junior

BestBiotic Junior is a modern probiotic for children in drop form, designed around the everyday eating routine of the youngest. The formula is built on four carefully selected probiotic strains, enclosed in microencapsulation technology and suspended in a stable coconut MCT oil base. The liquid form makes the product easy to use and simple to fit into daily habits, either taken directly or dissolved in a drink.

Why the microbiome matters from the earliest years

In children up to three years of age the microbiota is not yet diverse, and the vast majority of gut bacteria are Bifidobacteria. That is why BestBiotic Junior combines three strains from this genus with Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG, one of the most extensively studied probiotic strains in the world. A balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle are what keep the intestinal microbiota in balance. Supplementation can be an additional support, never a replacement for a varied diet.
